What is the Annual Enrollment Period?

The Annual Enrollment Period is a set period of time each year where folks enrolled in Medicare can make changes to their plans. This is the time to shop around, scout other plans, see what other benefits are available, and find the best pricing for those plans.

During this time you can:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage, or vice versa
  • Join or drop a Medicare prescription drug plan
  • Switch from Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage to one without, or vice versa
  • Update your coverage by switching to a new insurer

Who can take advantage of the Annual Enrollment Period?

Anyone who is enrolled in Medicare and wants to make changes to their current coverage.

When is the Annual Enrollment Period?

This happens only once a year, between October 15 and December 7. After this, you will have to wait an entire year before you have an opportunity to make changes again.

Why utilize the Annual Enrollment Period?

There are incredible benefits available to certain persons, based on where you live, your needs, budget, and conditions. You may be eligible for benefits like dental, vision, an allowance for every day over the counter items like vitamins and bathroom supplies, access to doctors and nurses by phone, transportation to appointments and much more. If these are benefits you or your loved one could benefit from, don’t delay. This period of time is the ONLY time you can make changes all year!
